Changing a file name from photo.png to photo.jpg does not convert it. This tool decodes the image and encodes a new file in the format you pick. The download uses that format’s MIME type and extension.
JPEG has no transparency. If the source has a transparent edge, those pixels are placed on white and the page says so before you download. PNG and WebP can keep that edge when the browser can encode them.
A conversion can make the file larger. A small JPEG saved as PNG often grows, because PNG is keeping every pixel. Use Compress when the goal is a smaller photograph, and Convert when the goal is the format itself.
1. Open Convert and choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
2. Pick the format the destination accepts.
3. Read the transparency note if you chose JPEG.
4. Download and open the file to confirm it is the new format.
