JPEG cannot store transparency. Transparent pixels are placed on white.

Background

35 mm wide by 45 mm high. GOV.UK asks for this printed size. Passport Seva asks for 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm when a pasted photograph is required. Output is 413×531 pixels. Required face position and background still depend on the form.

The result and its measured file size will appear here.

How it works

1. Read the width, height, and background on the form.

2. Choose that preset, or enter the millimetres yourself.

3. Move the crop and pick a background color.

4. Download and confirm the pixel size shown next to the file.

Questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compress, resize, convert, passport crop, and background removal run in this browser. The picture is not sent to NELAI. A person model file is downloaded once. Download links exist only in the tab, and they are released when you leave the page or choose another file.

Which files can I use?

JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to 10 MB, and up to 4096 pixels on either side. A file is checked by its contents, not only by its name. GIF, HEIC, and PDF are refused.

Why did the compressed file get larger?

The sizes on the page are the real file sizes. A PNG stays lossless, so the quality slider cannot shrink it. A high JPEG quality can also be larger than an already-compressed original. Lower the quality, or resize the pixel dimensions first.

Does background removal work on any photo?

Version 2.1 keeps a person and removes the surrounding background in this browser. The photo is not uploaded. A person model file is downloaded once.
